The marble quarrymen of the Apuan Alps tales of a giant carved at the bottom of the abyss. An absurd undertaking, a masterpiece that no one has ever seen, and which perhaps will remain forever buried in the darkness of an impenetrable cave. But darkness is nothing more than a portion of darkness drawn by light. “The Abyss” reflects on this contrast: the white marble quarries of the Apuan Alps, the dark caves that wind underground. Two very distant worlds – the first of a blinding white, the other dark and wild – fused together by the creativity of a man, speleologist and sculptor, who for years has been sculpting a colossal statue at a depth of 700 meters in search of absolute purity that shuns by the judgment of men.
