Contest

The Screenplay Contest is dedicated to emerging authors and its aim is to produce a screenplay for a 5 minutes lasting short-film on a subject given by the Festival organizers the day of the contest.

The participants have 8 hours to develop and deliver the script. The best screenplay will be awarded with the production of the project by Images Hunters in collaboration with Yourban 2030Rai Cinema, Laser FilmRedigital, Luxor, Officinema and Wonderlab.

The contest in its first editions has been officiated by Massimo Gaudioso, Mario Sesti and Nicola Guaglianone and it has hosted more than 200 participants every year at the MAXXI – Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI secolo – Auditorium hall.

Since now, thanks to the contest, we have produced two short films: Manhunt, produced in 2016 – with Adriano Giannini and Maximilian Dirr – directed by Brando Bartoleschi and Cose dell’Altro Mondo, (From Another World) produced in 2017, with Emanuela Fanelli and directed by Lorenzo Di Nola.  All the short films were included in a wide distribution program by web, pay tvs, streaming tvs, cinemas and attendances to important festivals, such as the kermesse Cinema Italian Style in Los Angeles, thanks to Rai Cinema and Premiere Film.

Yourban 2030 join us this year, together with the historical partners of the Screenplay Contest.

Climate change, environmental degradation, pollution, the overbuilding of nature, the risk of extinction of some animal species: these are just some of the privileged themes in recent decades by artists from all over the world who use their works as reflections on our times, as instruments of inspiration for a better life. Art at the service of the Earth, the art that generates the image of the future towards which humanity should tend, the messenger and educator art. It starts from the city of Rome but the intent is to create projects of wide international scope, looking for synergies and collaborations with other countries and the involvement of international artists.

Starting from this mission, Yourban2030 marries the cause of the Screenplay Contest 2018 supporting the competition through the co-production of the winning screenplay and dictating the central themes on which the young authors will compete in writing a screenplay of 5 minutes: sustainable development, environmental protection, the relationship between urban society and cultural community.

During the production of the winner short film will be made available as a location the spaces of Officinema, a reality that has sets equipped with scenographies already setted up and adaptable to any need of film and television companies. Officinema is the result of the restructuring of a metalworking factory, that still retains the characteristics of an industrial setting. The spaces in time have been restructured to accommodate different laying theaters that will be available for the realization of the short film.

Redigital and Luxor will also provide all the equipment necessary to shoot the winning short film, with the offer of 3 days of free rental of a RED Helium 8K with RED Promise T1.8 lenses (including all accessories) and all the lighting park and the requirements of the machinists’ department needed for production.

Laser Film will offer post-production services for a total value of € 6,000, including sound mix, conforming, color correction and finalization.
