One of the most acclaimed directors of the new generation of Italian authors, Gabriele Mainetti (born in 1976), after a rich career as an actor, in 2008 he shot the short film Basette, written by Nicola Guaglianone, starring Valerio Mastandrea, Marco Giallini, Daniele Liotti and Luisa Ranieri. In 2011 he founded the production company Goon Films and started working on the short film Tiger Boy (winner of the second edition of the Roma Creative Contest), winner of the 2013 Nastro d’Argento as “Best Short Film”, and finalist for the 2012 Globi d’Oro and David di Donatello 2012. The consecration to the general public, however, comes in 2015 with his debut feature, Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot, with 16 nominations and 7 awards to David di Donatello in 2016 (including Best Producer, Best New Director and the Mercedes-Benz Future Award). Freaks Out!, his second feature, is currently in post-production.
